What is ESA ?

          What is a Space Agency ? What are the big players in the world ? What is the European Space Agency (ESA)?  Yet little known in Europe, the ESA is one of the only space agencies in the world to have such a wide range of activities and skills allowing it to play in the big leagues at the international level. What are ESA's fields of activity? What are ESA's flagship programs and major achievements, particularly in the scientific field? ? What is ESA's position in relation to NASA and in relation to national space agencies in Europe?

            Since 2009, date of entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty, which gives full competence to the European Union in terms of space policy, how have relations between ESA and the European Union been structured?

                Christophe Carreau worked for 30 years at ESA, mainly in the Scientific Program of the Communication Department. He designed the visuals and graphic production for the dissemination of mission results and the publication of scientific articles, as well as for the popularisation of space science to the general public. He develops and colors the astronomy images taken by the onboard cameras of space telescopes. He designs and writes the conference scripts in close collaboration with the scientific teams and the scientific managers of ESA missions.
