THE BIRTH OF THE PLANETS

The formation of the solar system and the fate of the rocky planets

Our solar system, like many others, was born from the contraction of a huge cloud of gas in space. But unlike many others, it benefited from contingencies that seem absolutely exceptional.

At a time when space astronomy is discovering thousands of other solar systems and exoplanets in our galaxy, one can formulate some answers to the questions that are obsessing us:

How were our planet and its neighbors able to form? Was there liquid water and life on Venus or on Mars as well? How did our planet Earth escape the fate of Mercury, Venus and Mars?
