ROSETTA
COMET CHASER
On November 12, 2014, a small robot named Philae, dropped by the Rosetta satellite of the European Space Agency, quickly became a worldwide celebrity by landing on a comet far away in our solar system !
This presentation will recount the whole story of the Rosetta mission since its launch in 2004, its 6 billion km cruise over 10 years until summer 2014, the release and the stressful landing of the Philae probe onto the surface of the comet "Tchourioumov – Guérassimenko" (aka "Tchouri"), and finally the end of the journey in September 2016.
I will cover both the technical aspects of the mission as well as the human ones. You will get to know the women and men who made this adventure possible, the challenges they faced and their happiness, their pride in having achieved this feat in the history of the exploration of the solar system.
